Rain, Jaegermeister and Super Fast Times at Knockhill

The cold and rainy weather at Cadwell Park had not put me off Time Attack, it had only wetted my appetite for what was once your average car, now going jaw droppingly fast.

Round Two saw Time Attack cars from all over the country arriving at a very desolate Knockhill. The fact that Knockhill is in the middle of no where did not affect the amazing turn out of drivers, all ready to do battle against the clock.

Bo Nielsen's VXR arrived with a very smart new bonnet. the once friendly looking Vauxhall Astra now has a mean edge, letting the other Front Wheel Drivers know if you see the Vauxhall Astra in your rear view mirror, you are not going fast enough.

For the first two practice sessions, most of the cars were on wet tyres. The standing water on the track gave no indication that it would evaporate before the crucial qualifying and final rounds.

Strangely enough wet tracks don't seem to faze Time Attack drivers, and Bo just popped on his wet tyres. I asked him if he thought it would effect his cars performance:

"No, I like driving in the wet and it means I get to save my dry tyres. It will be slower, but so will everyone else."

With that in mind, the cars went out for warm up and Bo was setting blisteringly fast times of just over a minute.

Warm up over, the driver had the chance to see what kind of shape the competition was in. Who did Bo think was his biggest threat?:

"The green Ford Focus is very fast in a straight line, but I will have to watch out for the Mini, they can appear from no where."

With practice over, it was time for the serious stuff.

Bo made his signature move, and was in the holding area twenty minutes before of the session, with his competition in the form of the Mini right behind him.

By being first out on track, the driver at the front gives themselves the chance to set a hot lap early on without getting stuck in traffic.

Bo was off straight away, perhaps to exuberantly, slightly loosing control round the back corner, then laughing about it later.

In true Danish style, he corrected the car perfectly, setting a fastest lap of 58 seconds leaving his competitors in the dust, struggling to lap in under a minute.

Unfortunately due to the car still being tested, Bo was unable to set a lap in the final.

Although the team were disappointed, the Jager was still flowing that night thinking things could have been worse.

For example in Pro this happened...

After all that air, Eurospec's Romain was fine and has even managed to laugh at his escapades.

The weekend may not have ended with a podium for Bo Nielsen, but the next stop is Holland for a fly by trip to the Dutch Fast Lap.

If this weekends times are anything to go by, someone will have to do something special to beat Bo.
