The Great Dane Bites Back Time Attack Round 3

After a shaky start to the season, defending FWD champion Bo Nielsen was keen to make Brands Hatch his weekend.

The FWD drive one hit wonders were out in force, giving Bo a bit of extra competition.

With David Ward plus two extra Mini's in his class,Bo knew he needed to step up his game.

On arrival at Brands, Bo was his usual calm and collected self, if he was feeling the pressure there was no tell tell sign that you may see with other drivers.

Torrential rain overnight forced some who had been camping in tents to move inside their pit garages. Great move for some, not for an unlucky few, who then had the misfortune of their pit garages flooding.

This season has been a notoriously wet one for Time Attack, so you'd think the drivers would be used to it by now!

Warm up a practice saw the drivers head out onto a very wet track, and some of the big competitors began to flex their muscles.

Bo's Forge Motorsport sponsored Vauxhall Astra set the second fastest time overall in Club Class, just two seconds behind 4WD's Marc Kemp and his mighty Evo.

Just in time for qualifying,  the sunshine came out, and a dry line began to appear on the track, greatly helped by the Formula 1 cars storming round on track, sending jets of spray into the air.

With AET Tubro on hand, there was no way Bo was letting this one slip through his fingers when his time was so fast and the win was already so tantalisingly near his grip.

But we had seen this situation just a few weeks before at Knockhill where reliability had been an issue, and the team new to not get complacent, anything can happen in Time Attack.

The Great Dane immediately set a blisteringly fast time in qualifying , which proved to be a great move as the session was red flagged with six minutes to go.

By the end of the session, Bo was the fastest in Club FWD by one second, his second win of the season in qualifying giving him a few more points under his belt.

The final was where it all went wrong for 'Bo Selecta' at Knockhill where he failed to set a hot lap.

There was no way he was going to let that happen again, and was down on the start line at the front of the queue, no way was he going to miss out on a chance like this.

Within two laps, he had set his hot lap and was on his way back into the pits as his fellow club drivers slid around the track as the rain once again began to fall.

At the top of the leader board was where he stayed, with no one being able to touch his fast, dry lap on what was now a wet track.

A stop step on the podium was just what Bo needed after such a tricky start to the season, and he proved that tactics on the day are just as important as all the hard work that goes into preparing for a meet.
